Fall is a special time in Algonquin Provincial Park. Each year thousands of visitors flock to the park to take in the brilliant fall colour. The prime viewing time is typically from mid-September to mid-October when the colours are at their peak. Let’s just say that Thanksgiving isn’t complete without a drive through the park along Highway 60.
The park is home to 34 native species of trees, 10 of which are conifers or cone bearing and 24 are species of deciduous trees. The deciduous trees change colour at different times depending on the species, their location in the park and environmental conditions around them.
The colours in Algonquin are so intense. Envision vivid greens, golden yellows, brilliant oranges, deep purples, and flaming reds. A photographer’s dream.
It’s easy to see why Algonquin is often seen as the fall colours flagship. Don’t take my word for it, go see for yourself!
