A seed is sown with the hope of new growth and beauty. Buried beneath the ground, it begins its journey in pure darkness. The seed cannot see where it’s going nor does it know what it will become. With sun and water the seed begins to grow marking a new beginning: a journey out of darkness and into lightness. Only with time and perseverance is it able to break ground and bloom into something beautiful.
Life for humankind is much the same. We all begin in darkness. We cannot see where life will take us. We require nourishment to grow. Along our journey, we may face resistance and travel through bouts of darkness to reach our lightness: our full potential.
These are my captures of flora at their most brilliant point along their journey out of darkness, at the very cusp of returning to the darkness.
Each bloom is photographed against a black background to portray how far it is from the darkness through which it came and yet, how close it is to the darkness to which it will return.
